This is a quick update just to let everyone know that I have submitted version 2.600 to the AppStore for both iPads and iPhones.

This is mostly a minor bug and maintenance fix. I have also update the web links to the Tumblr blogs from Posterous which has shut down.

This is, however, an important version of Auteureist™ for the iPad. 2.6 will be the last iPad version in preparation for version 3.0. Going forward, there will only be emergency fixes to v2.6 for the iPad, since I am completely focused on version 3.

It is important that you export (via email, Dropbox, or web server) any writing projects you wish to keep BEFORE upgrading to 3.0. There will be no upgrade path for the old database. Anything you do not export will be lost if you choose to upgrade to 3. However, you can continue to use 2.6 indefinitely as long as you do NOT upgrade.

I will continue to maintain v2.6 on the iPhone, until the iPad version is complete. At that point I will work on recoding the iPhone version to 3.0. If you are currently using the iPhone version, you do not have to export anything at this point.

If you are using both versions, you should backup/export the complete database to the iPhone version. That will enable you to use the iPhone version until the iPad version is complete.

See the Auteureist™ website for information on exporting:

When will version 3 for the iPad be released? I am hoping late summer or early fall, unless something major comes up.

Version 2.600 Submitted

It has been a while, hasn’t it?

I’ve been busy with work, writing (it’s ScriptFrenzy month), working on the new version of the app, and other things.

At this point, I will probably release a minor fix to version 2 of Auteureist in the near future, and that will be the final one. You will be able to continue to use that version as long as you like.

I am now completely focused on version 3. This will be a major upgrade and essentially a totally new program. The bad news is, is that the data in version 2 is not compatible with version 3. I thought long and hard about an upgrade path, and even have code to upgrade, but I feel it is not worth my time and effort to maintain and stage into the App Store.

As a result, you won’t be able to just upgrade the app and maintain all of your existing data. You will have to manually export everything you wish to keep using version 2’s export capabilities.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is, that if you are an existing user, there will be no price increase, and you will be able to upgrade for free. If you are new to the app and have not yet purchased it, there will be a slight bump in the price. It’s not that I’m greedy, but I think the new version deserves a bit more.

So, when will it be available? I am planning on late this year sometime. As I have stated a few times before, this is a hobby project. I am single developer, and have limited time and resources. I do this in my free time, as work and life allow.

I think the new version is worth it. I use it for my own personal writing. And even though it’s designed around how I prefer to work, I think it is a great improvement over version 2.

I leave you with two screenshots from version 3.
